Term life insurance

Term insurance pays your nominee a lump sum if you die during the policy term. It is the cheapest way to buy a large sum assured: a healthy 30-year-old can typically protect ₹1 crore for around ₹900 to 1,200 a month. A common rule of thumb is 15 to 20x your annual income, plus outstanding loans, minus existing savings.

Best for
Anyone with dependants, a home loan, or a single-income household.
Tax treatment
Premiums qualify for deduction under Section 80C (old regime) and the death benefit is exempt under Section 10(10D), subject to conditions.
